The Importance of Decluttering – Getting Rid of Stuff

Getting rid of stuff might be more important than you think. Nowadays we live in a capitalistic society in which it is important to own a lot of stuff. The more you own the happier you are – That’s what they try to sell us.

However, this couldn’t be  more far from the truth. It is the opposite. We learned to believe that we can buy happiness. We only need to open a magazine or watch TV. Everyday we are flooded by a wave of products that promise us more happiness and a better life. We may be happy for a couple of minutes but then we tend to be more miserable than before.

It is important to understand that we cannot buy happiness. Happiness comes from the inside. Nothing and nobody can make us happy. Happiness is a choice we make every single second.

Our things don’t just occupy space in our house or apartment they also occupy space in our mind. The more we have the more we have to think about. This space could be used more efficiently if it wouldn’t be filled with stuff. The less you have the less you have to worry about. Getting rid of things brings freedom. More time and space that you can use for the moments that really make you happy. You can focus on the present and future instead of holding on to things from the past.

Stay tuned for my next post on how to actually increase happiness.

Love,

Lori

Why you should meditate

No you don’t need to be a Buddhist or a spiritual guru to enjoy all the benefits of meditation. Meditation is for everybody. Already 5 minutes a day is a great start. If you cannot handle complete silence at the beginning, try out some guided meditations with background music.

Our mind is full of thoughts all the time even when we are sleeping. Don’t you think it would be happy about a break from time to time?

Some benefits of meditation:

  1. Being calmer
  2. Being more focused
  3. Improvement of sleep
  4. Having better social interactions
  5. Getting to know yourself better
  6. Having more energy

25 Life Lessons-Lesson 8

Lesson 8

Do what makes you happy every day! Don’t wait until it is too late!

You don’t know how much time you have got to live, so it is important to literally enjoy every single day. I have met so many people who worked and suffered every day hoping to be able to enjoy their retirement. However, many of those people died only a couple of years or even months after their retirement started. You don’t know what the future brings. You only got today, so make it count and enjoy it!
